Shirdi Baba used to light lamps near the Nimbar in Dwarakamayee. The Nimbar or the niche is a standard feature in all mosques, and usually faces the direction of Holy Mecca. The Dwarakamayee at Akkaraipatti was constructed in the year 2014 with traditional pomp and gaiety. Baba has said that merely stepping into Dwarakamayee will confer blessings. He lived here for about 60 years during which innumerable devotees got His Darshan and blessings from this holy place. Sai Baba lived in a dilapidated mosque which He called Dwarakamayee. Another strong point, to help the elderly, two ramps are placed on the ground floor of the temple. The 20 chhatris that surround the main temple complex add elegance to this architectural wonder. The exterior domes accented with gold leaf catch the eye of all onlookers. The entire temple complex bears nothing less than architectural splendor adorned with traditional ornamental works. A variety of frescoes showing the manifestation of Sai Baba are painted on the false ceiling of the temple, which is simply impressive. The temple complex has four secondary shrines of Lord Ganesha and other deities and the walls of the temple are adorned with murals of the deities. The first floor of the shrine has an area of 6,500 square feet from where worshipers can view the pujas and religious events that take place on the ground floor. The ground floor is so spacious that it covers 13,500 square feet and houses a magnanimous idol of the Sai Baba made up of 2 tons of marble. The basement of the shrine houses a 5-feet-tall Shiva Linga and is primarily used for yoga and meditation practices.
